Gas began to flow to China on July 28 following the completion of agas pipeline stretching for 793 km onshore within Myanmar'sterritory after three years of construction, according to Xinhua newsagency.
The gas pipeline is part of a Myanmar-ChinaOil and Gas Pipeline project, worth 2.5 billion USD, oimplemented bythe China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), the Myanmar Oil and GasEnterprise (MOGE) and four other partners from the Republic ofKorea and India .
Starting from Kuaykphyu onthe west coast in Myanmar , it passes through Rakhine state, Magwayand Mandalay regions and Shan state and enters Chinese territory atRuili , Yunnan province.
The gas pipeline has adesigned annual throughput of 12 billion cubic metres, equivalent to 25percent of China ’s total imported gas a year.
The Myanmar-China Oil and Gas Pipeline project also includes a 771 kmpipeline to bring crude oil from the Middle East to China via theIndian Ocean , which is expected to be completed in September thisyear.
The designed transmission capacity of the crude oil pipeline is 22 million tonnes per year.
The oil and gas pipeline project, as one of the most strategicinvestments of China in Myanmar, aims to help reduce China’s dependenceon the Malacca route, through which 80 percent of China’s oil import istransported.-VNA
