Hanoi (VNA) - The presidential election process kicked off in Myanmar🅰 on March 10 as the House of Representatives (Lower House), House of Nationalities (Upper House) and military-assigned representatives submit their candidates.

The Lower House nominated Htin Kyaw of the ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) and Dr. Sai Mauk Kham of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP).
Htin Kyaw, born in 1946, is a confidant of the NLD leader – Aung San Suu Kyi. Meanwhile, Dr. Sai Mauk Kham is currently Vice President of Myanmar.
In the group of presidential electoral college of the Upper House, Henry Van Htee Yu was nominated by the NLD, and Khin Aung Myint, former speaker of the House of Nationalities, was nominated by the USDP. The Myanmar parliament has set three groups representing the two Houses and the military representatives, to select one candidate from each group for the final round of election as president. Through parliamentary voting, the winner will take the presidency, while the remaining two will be vice presidents. Voting for the presidency will be conducted on March 17 or 18 when the Union Parliament reconvenes.-VNA
