Hanoi (VNA) – National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan hosted areception for members of the Vietnamese national women's football team inHanoi on October 18 on the occasion of the 89th anniversary ofVietnamese Women’s Day.

During the meeting, Ngansaid she was proud of the national spirit and will that the players showedduring the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Championship 2019 to becomechampions of the tournament.

She praised the players for their efforts toovercome difficulties in their lives as we as in training to reach the success.

The NA Chairwoman also underlined the potential for further development of theteam in the time to come.

Ngan said that it is necessary to have specific and proper strategies to promotethe country’s football development, with the first responsibility belonging tothe Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the sports sector.

She asked the VFF and the sports sector to work hard toimprove the quality of and professionalism in organising women's football tournaments,and create the best conditions for female football players in training and participatingin tournaments as well.

Ngan wished that the players will continue to achievesuccesses and conquer higher achievements in the future.

At the meeting, head of thenational women’s football delegation Duong Vu Lam reported the team's excellentperformance and achievements in the recent time.

On behalf of the team, captain Huynh Nhu stressed that theteam obtained the victory in the AFF Women’sChampionship 2019 thanks to efforts andcontributions of all the members.

Nhu expressed her thanks to Partyand State leaders as well as the VFF and relevant agencies for their supportand assistance to the team, while affirming the team’s determination to gainhigher achievements in the coming time.

The Vietnamese women's football team became the champions in the AFF Women’s Championship 2019 after beating hostsThailand 1-0 in the final’s extra time on August 27.

This victory also ended Thailand’s title-winningstreak in the championship after three seasons./.
