National Assembly issues resolution approving border-related treaties

The National Assembly has issued Resolution 98/2019/QH14 approving two legal documents on the national border between Vietnam and Cambodia.

Hanoi(VNA) – The National Assembly has issued Resolution 98/2019/QH14 approving two legal documents on the nationalborder between Vietnam and Cambodia.

Subject to theresolution are the Supplementary Treaty to the 1985 Treaty on the Delimitationof the National Boundary and the 2005 Supplementary Treaty between Vietnam andCambodia, and the Protocol on the Demarcation and Marker Planting of the LandBoundary between Vietnam and Cambodia.

The two legaldocuments were signed in Hanoi on October 5, 2019.

The resolutionalso allows the direct enforcement of all stipulations in the two documents.

The NA requeststhe Prime Minister to bear responsibility for organizing the implementation ofthe two documents. The PM is also tasked with approving a plan on communicationactivities to enhance awareness among the political system and the people,especially residents in the 10 provinces bordering Cambodia on the documentsand create consensus in implementing them.

The Government isrequired to complete relevant procedures for the two documents to take effectand register them at the UN.

The NA asks theGovernment to continue with negotiations on remaining border sections in orderto early complete the delimitation and marker planting of the Vietnam-Cambodiaborder./.
