– The seventh session of the 14th National Assembly (NA)wrapped up in Hanoi on June 14, completing all items on its 20-day workingagenda.

Inher closing remarks, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said the legislature mulledover laws and resolutions, and passed them with high consensus.

Thesedocuments will create a legal foundation to promptly deal with emerging issues,contributing to spurring socio-economic development in a rapid and sustainableway, and improving people’s living standards, she said.

Thedraft laws debated during the session are significant to the completion of thelegal system on citizens’ basic rights and obligations, and socialist-orientedmarket economy institutions, national defence and security, and the country’seconomic development and integration, she added.

Thetop legislator said the Government’s report reveals that Vietnam has reapedsignificant achievements in socio-economic development, nationaldefence-security and foreign affairs.

Vietnam’selection as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council witha record high number of votes has affirmed the country as a responsible andactive member of the international community, she stressed.

However,amidst difficulties and challenges facing the national economy, the Governmentshould acquire opinions of deputies and keep a close watch on the reality totake timely management measures in order to maintain the economic growth,ensure macro economic stability, curb inflation and flexibly cope with complexglobal economic and political developments, Ngan suggested.

Shesaid the NA has decided to choose the implementation of policies and laws onchild abuse combat as the topic for its supreme supervision in 2020.

Thequestion-and-answer sessions took place in a democratic environment, drawingpublic attention, she said, urging Cabinet members, ministers and head ofagencies to soon take concrete actions to realise their commitments.-VNA
