Natural resources minister queried about land issue

Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Minh Quang focused on the handling of citizens’ land-related complaints at a Q&A session in Hanoi on September 29 as part of the ongoing 31st meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee.

Healso answered questions on the use of rice growing land and a plan oncrop transformation on rice growing land as well as measures to addresswasteful land use, the granting of land use right certificates, andState management responsibility for natural resources and mineralexploitation in combination with environmental protection.

The minister pinpointed the causes behind the delay in granting landuse right certificates, which included officials’ lack ofresponsibility. In the coming time, the ministry will increaseguidance, supervision and inspection of this issue, he said.

Regarding the complaints related to land and environment issues whichare growing more complicated, Quang explained that the unstable landuse, overlapped polices and legal documents on land management and use,as well as shortcomings in site clearance compensation are behind thesituation.

He also mentioned people’s poor awareness of policies and laws on complaints and accusations as one of the reasons.

Chief Government Inspector Huynh Phong Tranh proposed the continuedperfection of policies and institutions, focusing on the quality oflegal documents and the assessment of the implementation process.-VNA
