A nature reserve named Chi San will be set up in Meo Vac district of northernmost Ha Giang province in a bid to protect rare fauna and flora as well as ensure the sustainable development of the northern mountainous region. Nguyen Duc Vinh, Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development – the project investor, said the sanctuary will cover nearly 5,500 hectares of land in six communes of Meo Vac.
He said the formation of the Chi San reserve also aims to protect forest ecosystems, with 73 percent of the area being closed evergreen forests, and improve the capacity of watershed protection forests.
The zoned area is home to 663 flora and 121 fauna species, including 58 plants and 22 animals listed in the Red Books of Vietnam and the world, according to the province’s portal. Vinh said his department will coordinate with consultative agencies to devise a detailed plan on the project and implement related activities such as personnel training, information dissemination, infrastructure building, and eco-tourism development.-VNA
