Hanoi (VNA) — Facebook Messenger is reported to be underattack in recent days by a new virus.
The virus uses a name in the victim’s friend list to send acompressed file on the social media site. The file, named “video _” with fourrandom numbers, such as “video_3622.zip”, has been sent via themessenger app to users in Vietnam.
Such notifications are used to spread the virus, and when theuser clicks on the link they will be directed to a site where the virus couldbe downloaded onto their computer.
According to Vu Ngoc Son, internet security expert from BKAVTechnology Group Vietnam, the new virus was only spreading through the Google Chromebrowser.
The purpose of the malicious software was to take control ofthe target computer and mine virtual currency. The users’ computer would slowdown significantly, making it almost impossible to use, he said.
The biggest danger of this new virus was that hackers coulduse the victim’s friend list to continue to spread.
The expert also recommended that Facebook usersshould immediately change the password for their account if they have openedthe attached file.
In order to avoid becoming a victim, users should be carefulwhen receiving files via messenger and should confirm with the sender if thefile is genuine.

HCM City's Department of Taxation has sought a report from its offices by the end of this month on their implementation of its instruction to collect taxes from people selling merchandise on Facebook.
As many as 13,422 Facebook account holders are conducting trading activities through this social network, the Hanoi Taxation Department announced on June 20.
Small and home-based business owners who use the Facebook platform to sell products and have revenue of more than 100 million VND (4,500 USD) per year will be taxed at five percent.
