Ninh Binh’s Tam Diep city recognised as new-style rural area

Tam Diep city in the northern province of Ninh Binh has received a Prime Minister’s decision recognising that the locality has completed all criteria of the new-style rural area building programme.

Ninh Binh (VNA) – Tam Diep city in the northern province of Ninh Binh has received a PrimeMinister’s decision recognising that the locality has completed all criteria ofthe new-style rural area building programme.

Deputy Prime MinisterVuong Dinh Hue, head of the Steering Committee for National Target Programme onNew-style Rural Area Building handed over the decision to the city on December17.

So far, all communes inthe city have been certified as new-style rural areas, four years prior to the plan.

After seven years ofimplementing the programme, Tam Diep has made significant achievements in allfields. All local roads have been upgraded, while all degraded houses have beenrepaired, and nearly 95 percent of people at working age have been employed.

Average per capitalincome of locals in 2017 is estimated at 40.8 million VND (1,791 USD), whilethe ratio of poor households has been reduced to 1.68 percent.

Local resident donated162 billion VND (7.11 million USD) to the programme, or 16 percent of the totalcost, while businesses contributed over 104.49 billion VND (4.58 million USD).

In the coming time,Tam Diep expects to have all communes meet criteria to be upgraded to urban wards,turning Tam Diep to a provincial-run level-two city.

Addressing theceremony, Secretary of Ninh Binh’s Party Committee Nguyen Thi Thanhcongratulated the Party Organisation, government and people of Tam Diep for thesuccess. She noted that Tam Diep is the first and only city, which is not acapital city of a province, in the Red River delta to have fulfilled all criteriaof the programme.

She said she hopes thelocality will promote the achievements and make Tam Diep a level-two city in2020, while attracting more investment and developing high technologyagriculture.-VNA
