Ninh Thuan (VNA)꧃ – The south-central province of Ninh Thuan on January 23 established a steering committee and its support team for the implementation of the Ninh Thuan nuclear power plant project.

The move aims to facilitate the performance of tasks related to the construction of the plant within the province’s authority and responsibilities. The committee is chaired by Tran Quoc Nam, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, with Trinh Minh Hoang, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, serving as Permanent Vice Chairman. The Director of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade acts as the committee's Vice Chairman.
In addition to their specific duties, committee members will guide relevant agencies to carry out their tasks, ensuring the continued progress of the Ninh Thuan nuclear power plant project. The committee is set to meet quarterly and hold extraordinary sessions as necessary. These meetings will focus on evaluating the project's progress, addressing challenges during construction, and making reports or recommendations to higher authorities on matters outside its jurisdiction.
According to provincial leaders, the Ninh Thuan nuclear power plant will be constructed over the next five years, based on the Prime Minister’s guidance. The province will prioritise awareness campaigns to better local residents' understanding of nuclear energy, fostering broad support and consensus for the project. Nguyen Van Muoi, permanent deputy head of the provincial Party Committee’s Information and Education Board, reported that following the decision to restart the project, the board conducted a survey of 2,000 residents in the project area and surrounding regions. The survey revealed that over 92% of respondents were aware of the project and strongly supported it, believing it would contribute to the country’s economic development and enhance energy security./.
