Overseas singer Thanh Tuyen to perform in HCM City

Vietnamese-American singer Thanh Tuyen’s first live show in her native land will be held in HCM City this week to celebrate her 50-year career.

HCM City (VNA) - Vietnamese-American singer Thanh Tuyen’s first live show in hernative land will be held in HCM City this week to celebrate her 50-year career.

The concert, TinhMot Ngay Cung Tram Nam (Love for A Hundred Years), is expected toattract more than 1,000 people.

Thanh Tuyen hasinvited Overseas singers Thai Chau, Son Tuyen and Bang Kieu toperform at the event.

She will also sing withVietnamese singers Le Quyen and Hoai Lam at the show, which will feature bolerosongs that made Thanh Tuyen famous worldwide.

She will perform ConDuong Xua Em Di (The Way You Walked in the Past), Noi Buon hoa Phuong (Sorrowof the Flamboyant Flower), Duyen Kiep (Fate in Love) and ChuyenBa Nguoi (Story of Three People), composed by artists Chau Ky, Thanh Son,Lam Phuong and Quoc Dung before 1975.

A series of vongco, southern Vietnam’s signature long tunes songs will also be featured.

ThanhTuyen, whose realname is Nguyen Nhu Mai, was born in 1949 in Da Lat. She began studying musicwhen she was five years old. Two years later, she performed at the Thong NhatTheatre in Sai Gon (now HCM City).

In 1964, she signed anexclusive contract with the Continental Studio in Sai Gon.

She quickly becamepopular and released several albums, and later won dozens of music awardspresented by music producers and studios.

Thanh Tuyen and herfamily moved to the US and settled in Washington DC and then Houston in1979.

She has worked withseveral music producers and entertainment companies in the US and France. Sheplays guitar and dances as well.  

Tuyen sings the wayshe feels. “When I perform, the music and my emotions become one,” the67-year-old singer said.

Tuyen’s live showwill begin at 8pm on December 15 at the Adora Luxury Centre, 198 Hoang Van ThuStreet, Tan Binh District. Tickets are available at the theatre’s box office. -VNA
