A wide range of activities have been held across Latin America for Vietnamese people living there to welcome the Lunar New Year of the Dragon.

Hanoi (VNA) – A wide range ofactivities have been held across Latin America for Vietnamese people livingthere to welcome the Lunar New Year of the Dragon.

On February 3, the Vietnamese Embassy inCuba held a get-together on the occasion of the Lunar New Year (Tet) – the biggest traditional festival in a year of Vietnamese people. This year, it will be celebrated fromFebruary 8-14.

Wishing the Vietnamese community in Cuba goodhealth and success, Charge d'affaires Nguyen Ngoc Hung expressed his hope thatthey will promote the tradition of solidarity to continue contributing to thenation building and safeguarding cause, and to nurturing the time-testedfriendship between Vietnam and Cuba.

Participants enjoyed traditional Vietnamese dishes, and watched art performancesby Vietnamese students learning at various universities in Cuba.

The same day, a ‘Xuan Que huong’ (HomelandSpring) programme was held in Mexico.

Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Hoanh Namreaffirmed the Party and State's policy of highly valuing and desiring tocontinuously consolidate the great national unity bloc, of which the overseasVietnamese community is an integral part.

A similar event was also organised by theVietnamese Embassy in Brazil, during which Ambassador Bui Van Nghi extended hisbest wishes to guests and Vietnamese people living in Brazil,Peru, Bolivia, Suriname and Guyana.

A representative of the Vietnamesecommunity in Brazil thanked the embassy for always assisting them instabilising their lives, affirming that they will maintain contributions to thehomeland as well as the two countries’ relations.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela also organiseda community Tet event, during which Venezuelan singer and songwriter AlíAlejandro Primera sang several songs praising late President Ho Chi Minh, the founderof the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), on the occasion of the CPV’s 94th founding anniversary (February 3, 1930-2024).

Meanwhile, a spring market was held by theVietnamese youth and students’ association and the Vietnamese association inNew York, recreated the traditional Tet space of Vietnamese people, with typicaldishes of the three regions, folk games and art performances./.
