Overseas Vietnamese want to bridge Vietnam-US cooperation

Deputy Foreign Minister and head of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese (OV) Affairs Nguyen Thanh Son is undertaking a visit to the US and Canada to meet with OV communities.

During the trip, from March 10-27, Son hopes to further strengthen the cooperation between Vietnam and the two countries.

While in the US, the official held several meetings with OVsresiding in the cities of New York, Houston and San Francisco as well asother districts of California, where hundreds of thousands ofVietnamese Americans are living.

Son met withentrepreneurs, local authority leaders and social operators in Houston.Many of the OVs expressed their hope that the Vietnamese Governmentwill facilitate them to invest more back their homeland.

Representatives from several enterprises said they hope the committeewill protect their interests and support them in completingadministrative and legal procedures, allowing them to devote more timeand energy to investing in Vietnam.

Several members of the communities said they are willing to serve as a bridge between US firms and those in Vietnam.

During a working session held between Son and the management boards ofthe Houston Sea Port and George Bush International Airport, it wasstated that there is demand for a direct air route between Houston andVietnam as well as maritime transport routes between their seaports.

The official said following his US visit, the State Committee forOverseas Vietnamese Affairs will continue working with relevantministries and sectors to foster comprehensives cooperation betweenVietnam and the US.-VNA
