Vientiane (VNA) – General Secretaryof the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President Nguyen PhuTrong met with former General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Partyand President Choummaly Sayasone in Vientiane on February 24.

General Secretary and President Trong, who wason an official visit to Laos, informed his host about the outcomes of his talksand meetings with the country’s top leaders, expressing his delight at thecontinuous development of bilateral ties.

He noted that Vietnam-Laos relations areexemplary, faithful and disinterested ones hard to be found in the world. Amida complicated context with mixed chances and challenges, the maintenance andpromotion of their special relationship are essential and match both countries’development.

In the development of each side and theenhancement of bilateral links, it is necessary to learn from experience offormer leaders, including former Party General Secretary and PresidentChoummaly Sayasone, so as to unceasingly consolidate these rare relations.

For his part, Sayasone emphasised that thetime-tested Laos-Vietnam relations have been increasingly strengthened. Thefriendship between the two countries’ people is extremely profound and inseparable,and the solidification of that special solidarity is vital for both nations, henoted.

He expressed his hope that the two countrieswill continue training incumbent and future cadres, increase experience sharingand boost mutual understanding between their people, especially youngergenerations.

Also on February 24, Party General Secretary andPresident Trong visited the construction site of the building of the LaoNational Assembly – a gift from the Vietnamese Party, State and people. 

Its construction began on November 1, 2017, andthe building is expected to be inaugurated in late 2020. 

The Vietnamese leader asked the investor – theMinistry of Construction of Vietnam – and contractors to make utmost effortswith the highest sense of responsibility so as to build the building with thehighest quality, helping it become a symbol of the great friendship, specialsolidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

The same day, Party General Secretary andPresident of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith hosted a banquet in honour of thevisiting leader of Vietnam and his entourage.-VNA
