Hanoi (VNA) – The Philippines on March 3 announced President Rodrigo Duterte's order signed on February 28 on the inclusion of nuclear power in the country’s energy plan amid the country’s preparations to generally get rid of coal-fired power plants.

Under the order, an inter-sectoral committee will be set up for the reopen of the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) project, which has been postponed.

Completed in 1984, the plant was mothballed two years later following Marcos' ouster and the deadly Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

Since 2009, the BNPP has operated as a tourist attraction, helping defray the cost of maintaining it./.
