Hanoi (VNA) – The Philippines’ Department of Health(DOH) on July 28 confirmed 4,478 COVID-19 infections, pushing the country’stotal caseload to 1,566,667.

The day saw another 84 deaths from the novel coronavirus,bringing the death toll to 27,401. 

Also according to the body, the number of cases in 11 areas in MetroManila, home to over 13 million people, has increased by 19 percent compared tothree to four weeks ago.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque stressed theneed to continue strengthening the local health system capacities and furtheraugmenting the needed resources.

HealthUndersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire warned that the daily active cases inMetro Manila might reach 11,000 by the end of September.
