Philippine security is on high alert ahead of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and East Asia summits and related meetings scheduled for November 10-14 in Manila and Clark city.

Hanoi (VNA) – Philippine security is on high alert ahead of the Association ofSoutheast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and East Asia summits and related meetingsscheduled for November 10-14 in Manila and Clark city.

Nearly 60,000 soldiers and policemen will be deployed around the two hostcities to ensure the safety and security of the leaders and senior officials,according to Philippine authorities.

These forces will be assigned to secure the airports, routes, venues, and toursof the participants. Forces from nearly regions will be also mobilised to makesure that there will be no untoward incident during the event.

From November 8 to 15, roads around the meeting venues will be placed underpartial or full lockdowns,  while a"no sail zone" in the Manila Bay from November 5 to 16 has been issued.

The government has also implemented a 15-day gun ban in Metro Manila and 12nearby provinces, beginning November 1.

The ASEAN summit will take place on November 13 while the East Asia Summit(EAS) will take place on November 14, both in Manila.

The leaders will also attend the celebration marking the 50th anniversary ofASEAN on November 12.

ASEAN groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, thePhilippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

EAS includes ASEAN and its eight dialogue partners -- Australia, China, India,Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Russia, and the United States.-VNA
