Photos capture northern beauty

Landscapes and ethnic groups of the northern mountainous region are featured in a photograph exhibition which opened on Apr. 24 in Hanoi.

Entitled Sac Mau Vung Cao (The Colour ofMountainous Region), the exhibition is being organised by the VietnamNews Agency to celebrate the liberation of south Vietnam on April30, 1975.

The 70 large photographs exhibited are theresult of several journeys by 16 VNA photojournalists to remotemountainous areas.

They depict the daily lives,festivals, customs and traditional attire of the ethnic groups,including Mong, Dao, Thai, Nung, La Hu and Lo Lo.

Photographer Thanh Ha, who has 10 photos on display, said the cultureand the people of the region gave him endless inspiration.

His photo La Pan Tan Vao Mua (La Pan Tan in Harvesting Season), showedpicturesque terraced paddy fields – a symbolic image of the region.

Le Hoi Nhay Lua Cua Nguoi Pa Then (The Fire Jumping Festival of PaThen People), by Minh Dao portrays the spiritual atmosphere of the area,showing a barefoot man jumping along hot coals; his expression is notpain, but a sense of spiritual awakening.

Severalother tourist spots, including the Silver Waterfall in Sa Pa , LaoCai province, Nui Doi ( Breast Mountain ), Vuong Mansion , andLung Cu Flag Tower in the northern most Ha Giang province, were alsofeatured in the photos.

The exhibition will remain open at 45 Trang Tien Street , Hanoi , until May 1.-VNA
