Kien Giang (VNA) – The People’sCommittee of the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang has approved a project tobuild a smart Phu Quoc city in the 2016-2020 period.
The 67-billion-VND (2.9 million USD) project wasinvested by the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) with a viewto improving the quality of public services and urban management efficiency.
The necessary condition to kick-start thebuilding of a smart city is refining information technology and telecommunicationinfrastructure, and providing convenient services in tourism, transport,environment, healthcare, education and finance.
To that end, sub-projects include building afiber optic cable network to connect the entire island, expanding the 4Gnetwork, and allowing the public access to wireless internet services as wellas launching a social-tourism information portal, developing e-government andonline residential management, monitoring environmental protection, installinga camera system, and managing healthcare, education, tourism, and forest fires.
Vice Chairman of the provincial People’sCommittee Mai Van Huynh said the move will help the province realize its targetof developing Phu Quoc into a special administrative and economic unit and ahigh-quality eco-tourism hub in the country and beyond.
To implement the project effectively, theprovince is taking a number of measures to create a favourbale legalenvironment, promote the application of science and technology, and develophuman resources in addition to raising public awareness and boosting domesticand foreign cooperation.
The project will contribute to modernising theadministrative system, improving management capacity to better serve businessesand people, and making Phu Quoc one of the strongest e-government localities inthe Mekong Delta.
The establishment of smart information systemswill provide businesses and people with high-quality online services and reducetime and procedures in administrative transactions with the administration.
