Phu Yen: Rare sea turtle returned to nature

A rare turtle was released back into the ocean in the south-central coastal province of Phu Yen on January 11 by the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Xuan Thinh Border Post.

Phu Yen (VNA) –  A rare turtle was released back into the oceanin the south-central coastal province of Phu Yen on January 11 by the provincialDepartment of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Xuan Thinh Border Post.

The reptile was discovered by a local fishermanon January 10. It weighs 3.7 kg and measures 40 cm in length, 25 cm in widthand is reported to be in good health.

The provincial department advised local residentsto report to competent agencies if they find the endangered animal.

In October 2018, as many as 12 turtles werereleased back into the ocean in Phu Quoc island district of the Mekong Deltaprovince of Kien Giang.

The rare reptiles were previously raised amonglocal households in Bai Thom commune of Phu Quoc for years.–VNA

✅ Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.

Renowned artists including Ha Anh Tuan, Den Vau, and Phan Manh Quynh, along with many directors and attendees, took part in planting hundreds of rare tree species such as mun (Diospyros mun) and cho chi (Parashorea chinensis) in the Thung Bong area of the Cuc Phuong National Park, contributing to forest ecosystem restoration.
