Plan to implement Vietnam – UK anti-human trafficking deal issued

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has recently issued a plan for the implementation of a memorandum of understanding on anti-human trafficking cooperation signed between the Vietnamese Government and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in late 2018.

Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hasrecently issued a plan for the implementation of a memorandum of understandingon anti-human trafficking cooperation signed between the Vietnamese Governmentand the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland inlate 2018.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Public Security will be incharge of the plan, with its main tasks including making recommendations to theestablishment of an inter-sector working group, and building plans andstrategies and organising prioritised joint activities between relevantagencies of the sides involved.

The ministry is also assigned to coordinate the cooperationbetween domestic sectors and localities, as well as between Vietnamese and UKcompetent agencies and international organisations in terms of informationexchange; establishment of hotlines; investigation; arresting and transfer ofhuman trafficker suspects; and rescuing and supporting the victims.

A number of other public bodies are also tasked to join theeffort.

The Ministry of Defence will work to spread knowledge onanti-human trafficking across border and island areas, while intensifyingborder and sea patrols and security management.

The Ministry of Information and Communications will directtelecom and internet service providers in circulating messages and informationon the prevention and fighting of the crime via different methods.

The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs willorganise support activities for victims trafficked from the UK to Vietnam andvice versa. The aid includes the provision of accommodation facilities andcommunity integration assistance. It will also study the revision of currentsupport policies for the group to make them more suitable to the current demandand context.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will have to make sure itsrepresentative offices in UK and other countries effectively carry out citizenprotection measures, particularly for the victims or those suspected of beingtrafficked.-VNA
