PM gives green light to construction of Hoa Binh-Moc Chau expressway
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has approved an investment project for the construction of the Hoa Binh-Moc Chau expressway under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hasapproved an investment project for the construction of the Hoa Binh-Moc Chau expresswayunder the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
The highway is estimated to be about 85 km long, of whichsome 49 km running through Hoa Binh province and the remaining through Van Hoand Moc Chau districts of Son La province.
The road system will link two tourism hubs of thenorthwestern region. It is also expected to ease congestion on National HighwayNo.6 through Hoa Binh and Son La, while contributing to the overallsocio-economic development of the two provinces.
Built at a total cost of over 22.29 trillion VND (952.05million USD), the road will allow vehicles to travel at 60-80 km per hour.
The northwestern region consists of 12 mountainous andmidland localities, including Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Son La, HaGiang, and Hoa Binh.
It is the most disadvantaged area compared with otherregions and has the highest rate of poor households. The biggest challenges forthe region includes poor transport infrastructure and a lack of basicfoundations for the development of railway and air travel. Given the currentsituation, the development of road transport infrastructure was considered themost suitable option.–VNA
Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has requested the northern province of Son La’s People’s Committee submit a pre-feasibility study for the Hoa Binh-Moc Chau Expressway project to the Prime Minister for approval.
The management board of the North-South Expressway project will issue prequalification documents to bidders of the National Highway 45-Nghi Son section of the project from May 8 to July 8, according to Cao Viet Hung, head of the board’s Planning Office.
