Hanoi (VNA) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc praised Austrian AmbassadorThomas Loidl for his contribution to Vietnam-Austria relations during areception in Hanoi on September 7. Theambassador came to bid farewell at the end of his tenure in Vietnam. PMPhuc said the Vietnam – Austria cooperative ties have seen active growth inmultiple fields, including politics – diplomacy, trade, investment, developmentcooperation, education – training, health care, culture, and others. Heexpressed his hope that the two side boost delegation exchange at all levels,and suggested the two Foreign Ministries jointly organise practical activitiesto mark the 45th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between the twocountries (December 1). Phucalso underlined the huge cooperation potential between the two nations, sayingthat Vietnam wants Austria to push the European Union to sign and ratify the EU– Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) soon to open up new opportunities forthe two nations’ firms. PMPhuc also took the occasion to extend thanks to the Government of Austria forits official development assistance (ODA) for Vietnam, particularly in railway,health care, vocational training, noting that projects using Austria’s ODA havebeen effectively carried out in Vietnam, particularly in the remote andfar-flung areas, contributing to improving the living condition of residents. Forhis part, the Austrian Ambassador said the Government of Austria always givespriority to promoting economic cooperation, trade and investment with Vietnam. ManyAustrian firms want to pour long-term investment in the country, particularlyin health care sector, he said, adding that the two nations have also seenfruitful cooperation in science-technology, culture, and people-to-peopleexchange. TheAustrian Government will continue providing ODA to Vietnam in the future andhelp the country implement ODA projects in an effective manner. TheAmbassador affirmed that he will continue to help foster the two countries’relations.-VNA

𝐆Death penalty for eight criminal offenses lifted

The new law abolishes the death penalty for eight criminal offenses: the crime aimed at overthrowing the people’s government; the crime of sabotaging state infrastructure and technical facilities; the crime of producing and trading counterfeit medicines for treatment and prevention; the crime of destroying peace and causing aggressive war; the crime of espionage; that of illegally transporting narcotics; embezzlement; and bribe taking.
