PM: Vietnam attaches importance to relations with China

The Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the Vietnamese Government treasure comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with China, said Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Da Nang (VNA) – TheCommunist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the Vietnamese Government treasurecomprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with China, considering it aconsistent policy, a strategic choice and a top priority in Vietnam’s foreignpolicy, said Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

During a meeting with GeneralSecretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and President Xi Jinping in DaNang on November 11, PM Phuc applauded the Chinese leader’s State visit toVietnam and his attendance at the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in the centralcity.

He expressed his delight at the progressin bilateral ties over the past time, stressing that China remained the largesttrade and tourism partner of Vietnam while Vietnam is still the largest tradepartner of China in ASEAN.

Regarding investment, the PM saidVietnam welcomes and creates favourable conditions for Chinese firms to carryout large-scale projects using advanced and eco-friendly technologies,particularly in infrastructure, processing industry, clean energy and high-techagriculture.

He suggested the two sides wellimplement the “Two Corridors, One Belt” framework and “Belt and Road”initiative, and improve infrastructure, particularly in border areas.

On trade, PM Phuc took thisoccasion to urge China to take effective measures to reduce Vietnam’s tradedeficit and import more Vietnamese goods such as agro-forestry-aquaticproducts, striving to foster stable and balanced trade and achieve thebilateral trade target of 200 billion USD in 2025.

The government leader called forthe effective implementation of cooperation projects in finance, agriculture,environment, transport and science-technology.

He proposed China provide morepreferential credits for Vietnam and make it easier for the country to get accessto soft loans within bilateral and multilateral frameworks.

PM Phuc also suggested steppingup studies on rice cross-breeding adapted with drought and saline intrusion,jointly dealing with arising issues in fishing at sea, increasing coordinationin the use, management and protection of water resources across the border aswell as fostering cooperation in tourism, transport, friendship exchanges and mutually-beneficialties among localities.

On maritime issues, PM Phuc said bothsides need to consistently settle disputes by peaceful measures in accordancewith international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law ofthe Sea 1982.
He proposed both sides strictlyimplement the Agreement on Basic Principles guiding the Settlement of Issues atSea between Vietnam and China, well control disputes, avoid actions that expandand further complicate disputes, maintain peace and stability in the East Sea, andaccelerate demarcation and cooperation for mutual development in disputedwaters.

For his part, CPC GeneralSecretary and President Xi Jinping affirmed that the Party, government andpeople of China attach utmost importance to strengthening friendlyneighbourliness and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam, saying the stableand healthy development of bilateral relations is conformable with theinterests of both nations and aspirations of their people.

The Chinese leader stressed theneed to increase high-level meetings to discuss major issues in bilateralrelations, promote strategic connectivity for development, facilitate trade andinvestment ties, foster cooperation in key fields and major projects, enhancepeople-to-people friendship exchanges, strictly implement common perceptionsreached by senior leaders and maintain peace and security at sea for the overallcomplexion of the bilateral relationship.

He spoke highly of Vietnam’sthorough preparations for and congratulated Vietnam on successfully hosting theAPEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting.

The Chinese leader also extended hissympathy to the CPV, government and localities that were recently hit bynatural disasters and declared that the Chinese government will offer 10million yuan in aid to Vietnam to help with post-disaster recovery efforts.-VNA
