Hanoi (VNA) – Domestic pri💯ce of tra fish (pangasius) is rising due to increasingdemand for exports at year’s end while supply source is limited, according tothe Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The prices of materialtra fish in the Mekong Delta in September 2017 are at around 25,000- 27,000 VNDper kilogramme. The prices of youngtra fish for breeding also showed an upward tendency due to shortage of thefish and increasing breeding demand.
Todate, farming areas for tra fish in the Mekong Delta totalled more than5,140ha, a decrease of 1.3 percent year-on-year while output in the first ninemonths of this year hit 998,000 tonnes, up 9.8 percent. Localitieswith largest breeding area and output of tra fish were Dong Thap province andCan Tho city with 390,000 tonnes and 134,000 tonnes, respectively.-VNA
A stronger marketing strategy coupled with substantial improvement in tra fish quality is needed to bolster the export of the fish as rough seas are still ahead for this product, experts said.
