Prime Minister gives nod to biodiversity, climate, forestry project

The Prime Minister has approved the “Integrating Biodiversity Conservation, Climate Resilience and Sustainable Forest Management in Trung Truong Son Landscapes” project.
The Prime Minister has approved the “Integrating BiodiversityConservation, Climate Resilience and Sustainable Forest Management inTrung Truong Son Landscapes” project.

Theproject has a total capital of 4.5 million USD, 3.8 million USD of whichcomes from the Global Environment Facilities’ official developmentassistance via the Asian Development Bank. The remaining iscorresponding capital from Vietnam.

It is managed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

The goal of the project is to strengthen the management andecological integrity of the protected areas in the Trung Truong Sonregion of Vietnam and ensure sustainable ecosystem services and climateresilience, bringing livelihood benefits to local communities andcontributing to regional growth.

The project hastwo components; to strengthen the planning and management of thebiodiversity and forests in the protected areas and their buffer zonesin the Trung Truong Son landscapes; and to implement landscapeconservation measures at the community level in the protected areas andtheir surroundings, providing financial sustainability and reducedgreenhouse gas emissions.

The central provincesof Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue and Quang Nam will be the targetedbeneficiaries of the project, scheduled to run from 2015 to 2018.-VNA

As a key member of the core group of 18 countries, initiated by Vanuatu, Vietnam engaged in advocating for the UN General Assembly’s Resolution N.77/276, requesting for the ICJ’s advisory opinion. ꧅ Hanoi to roll out policies supporting green transport transition

Under the plan, from 2025 to 2026, the city will complete mechanisms and policies to support businesses in switching to green vehicles, expand the electric and green-energy bus network, and build charging stations. The targeted proportion of green buses is set at 10% in 2025 and 20–23% in 2026.
