Son wasamong 84 new members elected to the NSA in recognition of theirdistinguished and continuing achievements in original research.
The academy also announced that it would elect 21 foreign associates from 15 countries.
Those elected bring the total number of active members to 2,214 and the total number of foreign associates to 444.
Last year, Son received the Simons Investigators Award from the NewYork-based Simons Foundation for his contribution to the field oftheoretical physics.
Son was born in Hanoi in 1969. Hewent to the United States for postdoctoral research in Seattle in1995-1996 and was invited to work as a professor of theoretical physicsat the University of Chicago from September 2012.-VNA
