Programme promotes youths’ engagement in sea protection

Thua Thien-Hue (VNA)ཧ – A voluntary programme was launched in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on May 12 to enhance young people’s participation in protecting the marine environment.

Under the programme, entitled “Clean up the sea”, 1,500 youngsters collected rubbish along Thuan An beach in Phu Vang district, Vinh Hien and Lang Co beaches in Phu Loc district.
Communication campaigns were also held to raise locals’ awareness of protecting the marine environment and responding to climate change. In the first phase, the programme is carried out in four central provinces hardest hit by the recent fish death incident, namely Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue, said Do Thi Kim Thoa, Deputy Director of the National Volunteer Centre under the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee.
It aims to promote the role of youth union members and young people as pioneers in coping with climate change as well as preventing natural disasters and protecting the environment, she added. On the occasion, the programme presented 1,000 gifts worth 500 million VND (22,000 USD) to disadvantaged fishermen in Phy Vang and Phu Loc districts.-VNA

Under the plan, from 2025 to 2026, the city will complete mechanisms and policies to support businesses in switching to green vehicles, expand the electric and green-energy bus network, and build charging stations. The targeted proportion of green buses is set at 10% in 2025 and 20–23% in 2026.
