A project on incorporating natural resource management and biodiversity preservation goals into socio-economic development planning and biosphere reserves management in Vietnam was launched in Hanoi on October 27.

Hanoi (VNA)- A project on incorporating natural resource management and biodiversity preservation goalsinto socio-economic development planning and biosphere reserves management in Vietnam was launchedin Hanoi on Octo🐷be🧔r 27.

Speaking at the launching ceremony,Resident Representative of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) in Vietnam Caitlin Wiesen said the project will help perfect legal regulations on biosphere reserves in Vietnam,assist in sustainable forest recovery and management, promote community-based livelihoodmodels to ease pressure on natural resources in three biosphere reserves, and raiseawareness among stakeholders, to increase their participation in biosphere reservemanagement. General Director of theVietnam Environment Administration Nguyen Van Tai said Vietnam is now home to nineUNESCO-recognised biosphere reserves. Most of them, however, are locatedin disadvantaged areas, meaning difficulties in fulfilling biodiversity and economicdevelopment goals remain. Funded by the Global EnvironmentFacility, the project will be carried out in Hanoi and biosphere reserves in DongNai, Quang Nam, and Nghe An provinces between 2020 and 2025./.

Vietnamꦫ ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuseꦍ, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
