Hanoi (VNA) - Protecting the environmentis now becoming a common motivation of enterprises’ long term strategy, Nguyen The Chinh, head of the Institute of Strategy andPolicy on Natural Resources and Environment said at a forum on May 22.

The Vietnam Environment Forum themed“Enterprises towards environment protection and green growth” hosted by Tainguyen va Moi truong (Natural Resources and Environment) magazineattracted the participation of ministries’ representatives, experts andcompanies in Hanoi and other localities.

According to Chinh, investment into organicand green agriculture has generated good profits for a lot of Vietnamese firms.Besides this, more and more enterprises are stepping into the industry of wastecollection and treatment, as well as environmental protection programmes.

By investing in eco-friendly industries andinnovations, enterprises can enjoy positive benefits while spreadingsustainable values to the community and country, experts agreed.

They noted that enterprises could definitelyimprove labour productivity by ensuring a safe and healthy working environmentfor workers. They can also avoid legal risks by strictly complying withenvironmental regulations and investing into effective waste treatment systems.

Therefore, on the occasion, experts andbusinesses asked related ministries, State agencies and the Government tocomplete the legal framework of natural resources management and environmentalprotection to create favourable conditions for enterprises to approachinnovations and achieve the green growth.

In another development, the Mekong Deltaprovince of Bac Lieu affirmed a commitment to reduce greenhouse gasemissions, effectively use natural resources and improve climate changeresilience by 2020 with a vision to 2025.

Specifically, Bac Lieu province expectsto reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by up to 10 percent by 2020, and up to79 percent by 2025. Furthermore, it is set to have 80 percent of manufacturingfacilities meeting the national environment standards by 2020.

To attain these goals, the localauthorities have implemented several solutions to raise awareness of thepeople, reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the sectors of agriculture,forestry, fisheries and industry, and foster sustainable consumption amongconsumers.

Duong Thanh Trung, Chairman of the provincialPeople’s Committee, stressed green growth as the cornerstone of the province’ssocio-economic development, indicating the province’s commitment in realisingthe national strategy of green growth and climate change resilience.-VNA

Vietnam ramps up plastic waste re𒈔cycling, reuse, treatment effoꦆrts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
