Regional minimum wage to rise 6 percent from July

The National Wage Council agreed to raise region-based minimum wage by 6 percent from July, during its working session on April 12.

Hanoi (VNA) – The National Wage Council agreedto raise region-based minimum wage by 6 percent from July, during its workingsession on April 12.

The increase level for Region 1 is 260,000 VND(11.36 USD) per month, while the respective figures for Regions 2, 3 and 4 are240,000 VND, 210,000 VND, and 180,000 VND.

With the adjustment, the minimum wages in theregions are to reach 4.68 million VND, 4.16 million VND, 3.64million VND,and 3.25 million VND, respectively.

Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and SocialAffairs Le Van Thanh said the council will soon submit the plan to theGovernment for approval.

Ngo Duy Hieu, Vice President of the Vietnam GeneralConfederation of Labour, noted that the adjustment will help boostproductivity and sustainable development of businesses.

The regional minimum wage is the lowest amount paidto an employee performing the simplest job in normal working conditions andcarrying out their job as required. It is based on four separate benchmarksdetermined by living standards in each area.

Region 1 covers Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City's urbanareas; Region 2 encompasses Hanoi and HCM City's rural areas, along with majorurban areas in the country like Can Tho, Da Nang and Hai Phong; Region 3 coversprovincial cities and the districts of Bac Ninh, Bac Giang and Hai Duongprovinces; and Region 4 comprises the rest of the country./.
