The ICT Press Club has voted on the 10 most outstanding events in the field of information-communication technology (ICT) in 2012, with the Prime Minister’s approval of the national telecom development master plan until 2020 topping the list.

In the second place is the withdrawal from Vietnam’s market of theRussian Vimpelcom mobile service provider, which owns Beeline brand.

Thefraudulent activities by Muaban24 Online Trade and Trading Company camethird in the list. The company swindled 700 billion VND from customersthrough multi-level virtual transactions.

The fourth oneis the issuance of the 13 th Resolution by the 11th Party CentralCommittee’s fourth meeting, considering ICT as part of the nationalinfrastructure.

Vietnam’s successful launch ofVINASAT 2 ranked fifth, followed by Viettel’s success in surpassing VNPTin revenue for the first time.

The seventh event was the decision to impose subscription fee on pre-paid mobile phone users.

TheS-Fone’s dismissal of most of its employees ranked eighth, followed byfee collection of music downloading as of November 1, 2012 and thecompulsory auction of mobile band.-VNA

♊ Vietnam launches six 4.0 technology training and talent networks

The networks bring together universities, research institutes and domestic and foreign businesses. Members will work closely in training, research, and technology transfer by sharing curricula, improving faculty capacity, providing access to laboratories and research facilities, and jointly implementing science and technology projects.

Vietnam is actively yet cautiously preparing for the construction of its first nuclear power plant in Ninh Thuan (now the south-central coastal province of Khanh Hoa). The resumption of the programme after years of suspension carries considerable significance for the nation’s development in a new era as it strives to gradually reduce and ultimately phase out coal-fired power to realise the Government’s commitment to Net Zero by 2050.

Vietnam has issued many key policies to support semiconductor development, notably the Politburo’s Resolution 57 on science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation. Other initiatives include the Semiconductor Industry Development Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2050, and the Human Resources Development Programme for the Semiconductor Industry.
