London (VNA) –🍒 The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) in the UK and the Vietnamese Association in the country held a requiem in London on June 10 for fallen Vietnamese soldiers.
At the event, participants paid homage to soldiers who laid down their lives to protect the country’s sea and islands sovereignty, including Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos. The ceremony was chaired by Venerable Thich Buu Chanh, head of the Phuoc Son-Dong Nai Monastery and Venerable Thich Le Nguyen, Chairman of the VBS in the UK. Venerable Thich Le Nguyen affirmed that the requiem is to honour heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country and to remind Vietnamese people living in the UK that the two archipelagos belong to Vietnam.-VNA
A requiem to commemorate Vietnamese soldiers who laid down their lives to defend national sovereignty was held in Phat Tich Lao pagoda in Vientiane capital, Laos on March 25.
A requiem was held at Vinh Nghiem pagoda in Germany’s Nürnberg city to commemorate 64 soldiers who laid down their lives to defend Gac Ma Reef in Vietnam’s Truong Sa archipelago on March 14, 1988.
Candles were lit at Martyrs’ Cemetery A1 in Dien Bien province on May 6 evening to pay tribute to fallen soldiers on the occasion of the 64th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954-2018).
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc offered incense at the Truong Son National Martyrs Cemetery on May 17 on the occasion of his working tour to the central coastal Quang Tri province.
