Results of rural household survey released

The results of a Denmark-assisted biennial survey of rural households in 12 provinces in Vietnam in 2012 were released at a conference in Hanoi on August 7.

The survey is part of a researchproject which is jointly conducted by the Central Institute of EconomicManagement (CIEM), the Institute of Labour Science and SocialAffairs (ILSSA), the Institute of Policy and Strategic onAgriculture and Rural Development (IPSARD), and Denmark’s CopenhagenUniversity.

The 2012 survey was taken into over3,700 households in rural areas, focusing on household welfare and with aparticular emphasis on the markets of land, labour and capital.

The previous surveys were conducted in 2002, 2006, 2008 and 2010.

Professor Finn Tarp of Copenhagen University spoke highly of thesesurveys, saying Vietnam has gained considerable achievements butthe country still faces a number of challenges in its economicdevelopment process.

He suggested that Vietnamshould work out policies based on the survey results in order to bringmore benefits for rural households.

According to the2012 survey, the average welfare in rural areas has been improved thanksto economic growth but varies from different areas and groups.-VNA
