RoK to train Vietnam’s nuclear power personnel

From May 2014, the Hanyang University (HYU) of the Republic of Korea (RoK) will send its top experts to Vietnam to train Vietnamese nuclear power personnel, starting at Da Lat University in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong.

At a seminar in Da Latcity on February 19, Professor Kim Si Hwan said HYU is now, togetherwith the Korean Nuclear Association for International Cooperation (KNA),conducting several projects to train and develop nuclear power stafffor Vietnam, in line with the bilateral cooperation agreement betweenthe two countries. Vietnamese learners will later be invited to the RoKfor refresher courses.

Necessary equipment willalso be provided by the university to set up laboratories where studentscan practicse and conduct research in the field of nuclear power.

In the short term, Da Lat University will receive a model of anuclear reactor and many training materials in the English language.

Rector of Da Lat university Nguyen Duc Hoaexpressed his belief that, with the assistance of the RoK side, it willsucceed in training many high quality workers serving the nationalnuclear power programme as well as its application for peacefulpurposes.

Da Lat University is among sixinstitutions nationwide training in nuclear power. It has alsocollaborated with other RoK partners, including the Korea Hydro andNuclear Power Co. Ltd and Seoul National University (SNU) in the field.-VNA

𒁃 Vietnam launches six 4.0 technology training and talent networks

The networks bring together universities, research institutes and domestic and foreign businesses. Members will work closely in training, research, and technology transfer by sharing curricula, improving faculty capacity, providing access to laboratories and research facilities, and jointly implementing science and technology projects.

Vietnam is actively yet cautiously preparing for the construction of its first nuclear power plant in Ninh Thuan (now the south-central coastal province of Khanh Hoa). The resumption of the programme after years of suspension carries considerable significance for the nation’s development in a new era as it strives to gradually reduce and ultimately phase out coal-fired power to realise the Government’s commitment to Net Zero by 2050.
