The Vietnamese Culture Days in Russia will take place from June 24to July 1 in three cities of Moscow , Saint Petersburg and Yaroslav,Vietnamese Ambassador in Russia Pham Xuan Son revealed at a pressconference in Moscow on June 19.

The event ispart of the regular cultural cooperation between Vietnam and Russia, which will offer a chance for people of both sides to get a deeperunderstanding of each other’s cultural identity and artistic beauty, said the ambassador.

Minister of Culture, Sports andTourism Hoang Tuan Anh will lead 80 leading artists to the event, whichwill feature Vietnamese Ao dai (long dress), traditional andcontemporary music, martial arts, paintings and films, he said.

A round-table conference on cultural partnership and trade promotionbetween the two countries will also be held in the framework of theevent, the diplomat added.

At the press conference,Ambassador Son also briefed reporters on the current socio-economicsituation in Vietnam , its external policy, the development ofVietnam-Russia relations as well as the dispute between Vietnam andChina in the East Sea .

He reiterated thatChina illegally positioned its drilling rig Haiyang Shiyou-981 wellinside Vietnam ’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf.

Vietnam has persistently pursued dialogue and serious contact withthe Chinese side at all levels to settle the case, however, Chinahas kept on sending more ships and aircraft to areas around the rig, hestated.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese law enforcementauthorities have practised utmost restraint, using no battleships butmerely civil vessels, he underscored.

In contrast,China has deployed more than 100 ships at the site, including manywarships, intentionally ramming and firing high-power water cannons atVietnam ’s ships, causing damage to many and injuring people on board.

In particular, a Chinese ship on May 26 sank a Vietnamese fishing boat, he noted.

Ambassador Son emphasised that China ’s acts seriously violateVietnam ’s sovereignty and jurisdiction, infringing international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

He affirmed that Vietnam has adequate historicaland legal evidence proving its undisputable sovereignty over Hoang Saarchipelago which it has held for decades.

He showedthem examples of such evidence, noting that many internationalorganisations and foreign government leaders also expressed theirsupport to Vietnam as well as their solidarity with the country inprotesting against China ’s wrongful moves.

Thediplomat also took the occasion to thank Russia for supportingVietnam in the world arena, especially its objective viewpoints on theEast Sea dispute, which call on all parties to settle the issuethrough peaceful measures without using or threatening to use force inconformity with international law.

Vietnam hopesthe international community, including Russia , will continuesupporting Vietnam in its efforts to ease tension and maintainpeace, stability and security in the region, he said.

At the beginning of May 2014, China illegally dispatched the rigHaiyang Shiyou-981 as well as a large fleet of armed vessels, militaryships and aircraft to Vietnam’s waters and positioned the rig at 15degrees 29 minutes 58 seconds north latitude and 111 degrees 12 minutes06 seconds east longitude, 80 miles deep into Vietnam’s continentalshelf and exclusive economic zone.

Despite Vietnam’s protest, China expanded its scale of operation andmoved the rig to 15 degrees 33 minutes 36 seconds north latitude and 111degrees 34 minutes 11 seconds east longitude, 60 nautical miles deepinside Vietnam’s continental shelf and exclusive economic zone.-VNA

Taking a journey to the Cham Museum — the modest building in Phan Rang –Thap Cham, Indian writer Ankita Mahabir said that the museum might not boast size but it brims with pride for the local community, featuring carefully preserved sandstone sculptures, portraits, and rare artifacts.

For years, the Vietnamese community in many countries rarely had the chance to experience Vietnam’s traditional arts and culture actitivies organized by the Vietnam government, except the annual event “Vietnam Day Abroad” that has been organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2010. But the year 2024 marked a turning point.

In the context of international integration and globalisation, culture and art education plays a vital role in promoting the all-round development of Vietnam's young generation.
