Scholarships presented to poor students in Binh Duong

The Republic of Korea General Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City and the Korean Business Association in the southern province of Binh Duong presented 219 scholarships worth over 700 million VND (30,400 USD) to poor students with outstanding academic performance on October 7.

Hanoi (VNA) – TheRepublic of Korea General Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City and the Korean BusinessAssociation in the southern province of Binh Duong presented 219 scholarships worthover 700 million VND (30,400 USD) to poor students with outstanding academicperformance on October 7.

Of this, 135 scholarshipswere for high school students, each with a value of 4 million VND and theremaining for secondary school students, each 2 million VND.

On the occasion, theassociation offered an aid of over 1 billion VND to 13 poor households to buildhouses.

Vice Chairman of theprovincial People’s Committee Dang Minh Hung said units have providedscholarships, built houses and presented gifts to local residents worth over 6billion VND over the past six years.

The RoK has so far been thefourth largest investor in Binh Duong with 737 projects worth 3.19 billion USD,contributing greatly to the local socio-economic development.

In another event, the Association for the Support of Vietnamese Handicappedand Orphans (ASVHO)and its northern Cao Bang chapter recently presented wheelchairs to 22 peopleliving with disabilities in the locality.

ASVHO Vice Chairwoman Ha ThiLien said the association has presented more than 40,000 wheelchairs to thedisabled from the central province of Quang Tri to northern localities.

The programme wasco-organised by the US’s Free Wheelchair Mission, the US’s Giving it Back toKids organisation, and the Humanitarian Servicesfor Children of Vietnam./.
