Dien Bien (VNA) – Disadvantagedstudents in 10 northern mountainous localities received “Vietnamese Seeds Fund”scholarships from Nhan dan (People’s) Newspaper on September 18.
Some 1,000 scholarships worth 3 million VND eachwere handed to outstanding students during a ceremony held in Dien Bien Phucity of the northern province of Dien Bien.
They are stud✃ents from the provinces of TuyenQuang, Yen Bai, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Lao Cai, Ha Giang, Lai Chau, SonLa and Dien Bien.
Thescholarships aim to ease difficulties of students in mountainous regions andsupport their studies.
Transport challenges and modest economic growthhave caused various obstacles for education in these provinces. In addition,the areas are hit by floods and landslides each year, affecting people’slivelihoods and the education sector.
Prior to the start of the 2018-2019 academicyear, various schools in Son La, Dien Bien and Lai Chau suffered great lossesdue to heavy rains and flooding.
Established in 2012, the “Vietnamese Seeds Fund”of Nhan dan newspaper aims to step up the campaign for building a learningsociety, which involves improving the quality of learning at schoolsnationwi﷽de.-VNA
Close to 500 Vallet scholarships worth 10 million VND (428.39 USD) each were presented to outstanding students from 58 high schools and six SOS villages in the north on August 23.
The central province of Thua Thien-Hue on August 25 launched a project to support local orphans and poor children with assistance from an US organisation.
As many as 144 Vallet scholarships worth 1.4 billion VND (60,200 USD) were presented to outstanding students and young researchers in the central province of Nghe An at a ceremony held in the locality on August 27.
