Scientists raise opinions on socio-economic development strategy
Scientists gave opinions on the country’s socio-economic development strategy for 2021-2030 with a vision towards 2045 during their meeting with the subcommittee on socio-economic affairs of the 13th National Party Congress in Hanoi on May 13.

Hanoi (VNA) – Scientists gave opinions on the country’s socio-economicdevelopment strategy for 2021-2030 with a vision towards 2045 during theirmeeting with the subcommittee on socio-economic affairs of the 13th National Party Congress in Hanoi on May 13.
PrimeMinister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, head of the subcommittee, asked the scientists to lookinto the national economic situation, along with challenges and difficulties facingthe country, focusing on major limitations of the old growth model.
AssociateProf. Dr. Bui Quang Tuan, Director of the Vietnam Institute of Economics, pointedout that the economic growth target of 7 percent set for the 2011-2020 period hasyet to be fulfilled.
Between2011 and 2018, the growth mainly relied on capital, he said, adding thatscience and technology received less investment while the labour qualityremained low.
Tuansuggested prioritising scientific-technological development and innovationswhich, he said, should be the most important pillar of the national growth inthe upcoming period.
Besides,it is necessary to create high-quality human resources and utiliseopportunities generated by the digital era in order to ensure rapid, creativeand sustainable growth, he said.
Prof.Dr. Dang Nguyen Anh, Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences(VASS), proposed perfecting the social welfare system to meet new developmentrequirements.
Dr.Vo Dai Luoc from the VASS said the private economic sector should be regardedas the most significant growth driver, noting that economic sectors should haveequal and transparent chances to access development opportunities.
Inhis closing remarks, PM Phuc said Vietnam needs to raise its capacity andproductivity so that it will not lag behind other regional countries.-VNA
