Seminar focuses on India-Vietnam maritime cooperation
The Vietnamese Embassy in India, in collaboration with India’s National Maritime Foundation (NMF) and the Centre for Vietnamese Studies, held a seminar with the theme “India-Vietnam Maritime Cooperation: Exploring Convergences” in New Delhi on April 23.

New Delhi (VNA) – The Vietnamese Embassy in India, in collaborationwith India’s National Maritime Foundation (NMF) and the Centre for VietnameseStudies, held a seminar with the theme “India-Vietnam Maritime Cooperation:Exploring Convergences” in New Delhi on April 23.
The seminar aimed todefine potential cooperation fields between the two countries.
Speaking at theevent, Vietnamese Ambassador to India Pham Sanh Chau underlined the growingVietnam-India partnership as well as the necessity to intensify cooperation throughdifferent methods, including stepping up maritime collaboration.
NMF Director PradeepChauhan said Vietnam is an important partner in India’s Act East policy.
There are variousconvergences on geo-politics between the two countries not only on the EastSea, but also in the Indo-Pacific region, he said.
He also pointed outshortcomings in bilateral maritime connectivity that need to be resolved to maximisecooperation potential.
Participatingscholars said the two countries can achieve many geo-economic targets through mutually-beneficialmaritime economic activities such as developing fisheries sustainably, exploringand exploiting oil and gas and boosting marine biotechnology.
They also stressedthe importance of bilateral cooperation in weather warning, positioning, searchand rescue, humanitarian aid and disaster relief to ensure maritime securityand safety.-VNA
