Seminar on Vietnamese Buddhist education

Hundreds of Buddhist teachers and educational experts from across the country gathered at a seminar in Hanoi on May 9 to discuss the models and methods of education that Vietnamese Buddhism currently uses.

The seminar was themed “Education on VietnameseBuddhism: Orientation and Development”. The participants shared theirviews on education in general as well as Buddhist education and how itimpacts on society, Vietnam ’s Buddhist Sangha (VBS) and futuregenerations.

The principles and philosophies ofeducation, especially Buddhist education and national education werealso discussed at the event.

The first task forthe education of monks and nuns is to implement a uniform curriculum inall existing educational establishments for monks and nuns, said theMost Venerable Thich Chon Thien, Vice Chairman of the VBS ExecutiveCouncil and Head of the Central Committee for the Education of Monks andNuns.

The most important thing is to keep improving the efficiency of teaching and learning methods, he noted.

According to the Most Venerable Thich Duc Nghiep, Vice Secretary ofthe VBS Central Committee’s Standing Board, ever since the VBS wasestablished, the education of monks and nuns has been always consideredan important task for the Sangha.

The CentralCommittee for the Education of Monks and Nuns has also supportedBuddhist education for tens of thousands of monks and nuns at fourBuddhist academies, nine Buddhist colleges, 33 Buddhist intermediateschools and nearly 100 Buddhist primary schools across the country.-VNA

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
