Senior officials pay respects, sign condolence book at RoK Embassy

Hanoi (VNA) – Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son visited the Republic of Korea (RoK) Embassy in Hanoi on December 31 to pay respect to and sign the condolence book for victims of the Jeju Air pl🍎ane crash.

Earlier that day, on behalf of the National Assembly (NA), Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thanh, also the chairperson of the Vietnam-RoK Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group, also visited the embassy to extend condolences and sign the book. In their messages, the two senior officials conveyed heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the RoK government, parliament, and people, particularly the families of the victims. They expressed confidence that the country would overcome this profound loss and swiftly address the aftermath of the tragedy, helping the affected families regain stability.
On behalf of the RoK government and people, Korean Ambassador Choi Youngsam expressed gratitude to the Vietnamese Party and State leaders for their condolences and personal visits. He emphasised that Vietnam's concern and support provide encouragement for the RoK during this difficult time. Previously, on December 29, State President Luong Cuong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent messages of sympathy to the RoK’s Acting President Choi Sang-mok. NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man also sent a message of condolences to his Korean counterpart Woo Won-shik.
Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Son additionally sent a similar message to RoK Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yul. The plane crash on December 29 claimed 179 lives, leaving only two survivors in critical condition. On the same day, Acting President Choi declared a seven-day period of national mourning to commemorate the victims./.
