Singapore, Japan sign three economic cooperation pacts

Singapore (VNA) – Singapore and Japan signed three agreements on trade, infrastructure and technology on September 28 on the sidelines of Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsieܫn Loong’s visit to Japan to mark 50 years of bilateral ties.
The trade agreement, signed by the International Enterprise (IE) Singapore and Japan External Trade Organisation (Jetro), promises to boost connectivity between both countries.
It helps the two organisations share market knowledge networks, foster business collaboration and undertake joint projects in Southeast Asia and South Asia’s third-country markets.
The infrastructure pack involves Singaporean urban and infrastructure development consultancy Surbana Jurong and the Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corporation for Transport and Urban Development (JOIN).
It aims to strengthen both companies’ cooperation and information exchange with regard to potential infrastructure projects in Singapore, Southeast Asia, Middle East and Africa.
The third agreement was signed between Singapore’s Nanyang Technology University (NTU) and Tokyo Institute of Technology (TIT).
Two institutes will work together in joint researches and technology in environment, nuclear safety, robotics and technology-enhanced learning.
Within the visit’s framework, PM Lee had a meeting with his counterpart Shinzo Abe and other political and business leaders as well as Singaporeans residing in Japan.-VNA
