Singapore launches safer cyberspace masterplan 2020

Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat announced the country's Safer Cyberspace Masterplan 2020 at the opening ceremony of the virtual Singapore International Cyber Week on October 6.
Hanoi (VNA) – Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat announced thecountry's Safer Cyberspace Masterplan 2020 at the opening ceremony of thevirtual Singapore International Cyber Week on October 6.

He said themasterplan outlines the government's blueprint to create a safer cyberspace inSingapore, tackling the high-volume, day-to-day cyber threats faced by theSingaporean people, businesses and organisations.

Heng said cybercrimein Singapore grew by more than 50 percent year on year in 2019, and now it accounts for more than one quarter of allcrimes in Singapore. Even though general crimes have come down, cybercrime hasgone up.

This requiresSingapore to double efforts to strengthen its resilience to cyber threats, hesaid.

The masterplanfocuses on three thrusts, which are upstream measures to secure Singapore'score digital infrastructure, early detection to safeguard Singaporean'sactivities in cyberspace, and empowering Singaporean people to build greaterawareness and adoption of cyber hygiene practices.

According to apress release from the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA), under themasterplan, the Singaporean government will collaborate with mobile networkoperators to secure Singapore's 5G networks, and review and update themulti-tier cloud security standard for cloud services, so as to strengthen theprotection of the Internet architecture in Singapore.

CSA said itaims to implement initiatives in the Masterplan from 2021 to 2023 and willreview the masterplan regularly to keep up with the prevailing cyber threatlandscape./.
