Hanoi (VNA) - Singapore has proposed newmeasures to fight fake news.
A newbill submitted to parliament on April 1 requires websites to publish warningsor corrections on posts it considers false and remove them.
According to Singaporean Law Minister K. Shanmugam, this bill focuses on falsestatements of facts. It doesn't deal with opinions and viewpoints.
TheMinistry said criminal sanctions will only beimposed if the falsehoods are spread by malicious actors who undermine society.
Those who use fake online accounts or spread false information in Singapore canface up to 10 years in prison. Meanwhile, the maximum fine is 1 million SGD(740,000 USD).
The move came two days after Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg called ongovernments to play a more active role in monitoring online platforms. - VNA
