Singapore's long-ruling People's Action Party (PAP) won the general election on September 11 by a huge majority across 27 of 29 local polling stations.
PAP took 83 out of 89 parliamentary seats, meaning it can establish a new cabinet, while its main opposition Workers' Party (WP) ended up with six seats. PAP dominated ballots cast in Jurong GRC (79.28 percent), Ang Mo Kio GRC (78.63 percent), West Coast GRC (78.57 percent) and Tangjong Pagar GRC (77.71 percent) and was surpassed by the WP only in Hougang SMC at 42.31 percent compared to 57.69 percent gained by the rival Party. It is also the first year that Singapore has launched random sample counts before the full counts was completed to prevent the spread of unofficial results.-VNA
