Six more golds for Vietnam at AUG 17

Vietnamese athletes on December 18 snatched six gold and one silver medals at the ongoing ASEAN University Games 17 (AUG17) in Palembang, Indonesia, increasing their total number of medals to 23.

Amongthe gold medals, two came from Pencak Silat artists Nguyen Thi Thu Haand Duong Thi Anh Nguyet in the women’s performance doubles and theirteammates Vu Quoc Viet, Hoang Quang Trung and Nguyen The Hien in themen’s team performance.

In the track and field, Vu Thi Huong,Nguyen Thi Huyen, Quach Thi Lan and Nguyen Thi Thuy brought home thethird gold medal in the women’s 4X100m relay while the fourth was baggedby Quach Thi Lan, Nguyen Thi Huyen, Do Thi Thao and Nguyen Thi Thuy thewomen’s 4x400m relay.

The remaining two golds were pocketed byDuong Van Thai and Do Thi Thao in the men’s 1,500m track and the women’s1,500m track, respectively.

The AUG is held every two years bythe ASEAN countries in rotation. This year’s event features 20 sportswith 225 sets of medals.

The 50-strong Vietnamese delegationcompetes in six sports, namely track and field, swimming, table-tennis,Taekwondo, Karate and chess.

At the previous games in Laos, Vietnam ranked second with 56 gold, 35 silver and 28 bronze medals.-VNA
