Snow blankets northern border districts

Due to an intense cold spell, heavy snows wererecorded in such communes as Lung Cu, Pho Bang, Pho La and Sung La ofDong Van, 1,600m above sea level. Ice in some places was over 10cmthick.

Meanwhile, mountain sides, roads andcrops in all border communes of Meo Vac district like Thuong Phung, XinCai and Son Vi were capped with snow, causing difficulties for localpeople.

This is the second snowfall recorded in the area this winter, following an earlier one on December 15.

On January 13, the cold snap made temperatures in the neighbouringprovince of Lao Cai drop to 3.2 degrees Celsius.

Dense fog caused poor visibility on National Highway 4D andinter-provincial roads 1,200m above sea level, and caused somecongestion on the O Quy Ho Pass.

Another cold spell is forecast to roll in on the night of January 13 and push temperatures in the region down further.-VNA

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.
