Soc Trang (VNA) – The Soc Trang Power Company has focused on developing an electricity network for Khmer ethnic people in rural disadvantaඣged areas in 2015.
Currently, almost all families in southern Soc Trang province have been connected to the local grid (99.4 percent). Nearly 96.8 percent of Khmer families are enabled to use electricity.
The outcome was attributed to the implementation of major projects to develop the power network with a total investment of 305.4 billion VND (13.4 million USD).
The power company also carried out a number of projects to support farmers’ daily activities and production.
The World Bank (WB) offered a loan of 193.5 billion VND (8.5 million USD) to implement the electricity distribution project for shrimp breeding in the province.
It provided 75 billion VND (3.3 million USD) in loans to build the 110kV Cu Lao Dung power station and 110kW Tran De – Cu Lao Dung power line, which are due to be completed in 2016.

The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) and the World Bank (WB) signed off on a loan for 500 million USD in Hanoi on November 12 to help the energy sector improve the efficiency of the national grid transmission.
About 3,160 Khmer households in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang have been provided with electricity just before the Khmer traditional Chol Chnam Thmay (New Year) festival, which falls in mid-April this year.
The Steering Committee for the Southwest Region and the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) pledged to join hands to develop the electricity network in the region.

It is also a moment for Vietnam’s media to accelerate its progress and figure out what the “revolutionary press” means in a new era.

A master plan on implementation of recommendations accepted by Vietnam under the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) took effect on June 17.
