Some 1,500 runners to join Vietnam mountain marathon

Hanoi (VNA) – The fourth Vietnam Mountain Marathon 2016, which is set to 🌺be bigger and better than ever before, will take place on September 24-25 in Sa Pa, 🅰Lao Cai Province.
The event has grown to become one of the premier trail running events in the region with 1,500 people set to take part, including British Ambassador Giles Lever.
For the first time, the event includes a 100km marathon, making this the longest one-day run ever in Vietnam. The other categories are 70km, 42km, 21km and 10km.
The route passes through the land of the ethnic minority villages and the magnificent rice-terraced valleys that Sa Pa is famous for. The race gives access to parts of Sa Pa that are normally out of reach, making it extremely attractive to adventure seekers wanting to see the truly remote areas of Vietnam.
“I created this race because of my love of these mountains. I wanted to build a great race in Vietnam and share the beauty of this area with others who love the great outdoors. This year I’m very excited that some seriously adventurous runners will see even more of the area on our new 100km route,” race director Asger Koppen, who founded the race while living in the mountains near Sa Pa, said.
Lever, who will compete in the 70km race this year, said, “This will be my second Vietnam Mountain Marathon. I participated in the 42km run last year. The event is a huge physical and mental challenge. But it is also a wonderful experience because of the beauty of the mountains and valleys, the friendliness of the locals and the camaraderie among the runners.
“I think that adventure races like this do a lot to promote environmentally-sensitive tourism in Vietnam. And because the tournament is increasingly getting popular with Vietnamese runners, it’s a great event for building international friendships.”
The race, which is organised by Topas Travel and supported by ♊Topas Ecolodge, has a strong focus on charity, with thousands of dollars donated to good causes over the last three editions. This year 20 USD from each race entry will be g🌜iven to charity. Operation Smile will once again benefit from these funds, along with the local communities that live along the race route.-VNA
Around 500 runners from 40 countries and territories worldwide will compete in the 2014 Vietnam Mountain Marathon (VMM), scheduled for September 20-21 in Sa Pa district, the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai .
Simon Grimstrup of Denmark won the second Vietnam Mountain Marathon's 70-km category which wrapped up at this magnificent town in Lao Cai province on September 21.
Around 800 local and international runners from 45 countries will join the Vietnam Mountain Marathon 2015 organised in Sa Pa in the northern province of Lao Cai on September 26-27.
The organising board of the 2015 Vietnam Mountain Marathon, which ended in Sa Pa on September 27, handed over 200 million VND (9,100 USD) to Operation Smile, a non-profit organisation.
The exhibition features works by 12 professional and amateur photographers from Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand. The photos, taken between April and October 2023, offer an authentic look at the effects of climate change.
Vietnam’s 50-athlete delegation delivered an impressive performance at the 2025 Asian Muay Thai Championships, securing 46 medals: 14 golds, 16 silvers and 16 bronzes.
The event, organised by the VNUFA, featured nearly 40 presentations from Vietnamese and foreign participants, including those from Russia, France, and Japan.

It is the first time that the country is to hold a G1-level tournament which is expected to lure more than 100 athletes of 15 countries and regions at Go Vap Gymnasium.
Nguyen Trong Nha Uyen has made history for Vietnam’s dancesport by clinching a bronze medal in the solo Latin category at the WDSF World Championship 2025 in Germany.
The ambassador noted that among the 300,000 Vietnamese residing in the RoK, around 3,000 are living in Pyeongtaek and contributing actively to the local economy. Ho expressed his hope that the local authorities will continue support the overseas Vietnamese community in the city.

The exhibition showcases more than 100 valuable documents and artifacts, divided into two main parts: “Journalist Nguyen Ai Quoc – Ho Chi Minh” and “President Ho Chi Minh – Founder and Mentor of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press.” This is an opportunity to recall the late leader’s journalism journey and affirm his exceptional role in founding and guiding the revolutionary press in Vietnam.
